New Look, Beer for Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse
Working in a brewery every day puts smiles on our faces, and we hope our beers do the same for our customers.- Head Brewer, Trevor Nearburg
Since 2006, Uncle Billy’s Brewery and Smokehouse has been serving up Texas barbecue and creating beer in-house at its location on Barton Springs Road in Austin, Texas. Now Uncle Billy’s is ready to take its operation to the next level. “We are celebrating our eighth anniversary this month, ” says Rick Engel, founder of Uncle Billy’s. “A lot has happened in those eight years. We became the first brewpub in Texas to distribute our beers through a third party distributor to bars and restaurants. Uncle Billy’s is now working with Brown Distributing Company and is also very fortunate to have Christine Celis overseeing all on premise sales efforts.”
At a recent media event, updated branding was introduced along with two new styles of beer. Head brewer Trevor Nearburg, and brewer Daytona Camps are responsible for the new styles including: Barton Springs Pale Ale and Lazy Day Lager.
Barton Springs Pale Ale is 6.6% ABV and features citrus and floral aromas. Light crystal malts were used to add a bit of sweetness and give it a bit of copper color. Works well with spicy food and a perfect component to a hot day.
Lazy Day Lager features a little lower ABV at 5.5%, but still full with flavor. Vienna malts and noble hops are used for a great beer to enjoy while being ‘lazy’ on the river. This lager would serve well with yummy barbecue and is served best at around 40 degrees.
“Our new beers are the kind that people can enjoy all year long,” says Head Brewer Trevor Nearburg. “Working in a brewery every day puts smiles on our faces, and we hope our beers do the same for our customers. The Barton Springs Pale Ale and Lazy Day Lager could become part of our signature year-round line-up, or will be the first of many special and seasonal beers that we brew in small batches using the finest malted barley and aromatic hops.”
The re-brand features bold color blocking on each style, and it features what looks to be the head brewer himself in a silhouette partaking in fun outdoor activities. ‘Billy’ is a wise beer sage. It should remind you of things that you love about life and Austin in general. He will have a voice too, so look for ‘Billy-isms’ by mid-June.
New beers will be draft-only initially, but full release expected by June. Here is a listing of upcoming events in the Austin area:
