2015 Foodways Texas Barbecue Summer Camp
UPDATE: Foodways Texas announced via Twitter that this event has Sold Out.
“The mission of Foodways Texas is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the diverse food cultures of Texas.”
That is the Mission Statement for Foodways Texas, a University of Texas-Austin group, that is hosting its annual Barbecue Summer Camp.
According to website information, the event will take place from June 5-7th, 2015 in College Station, and attendees will learn about barbecue traditions, methods and styles from pit masters, barbcue aficionados, and professors from Texas A&M Meat Science Section. The website adds, “the seminar will provide attendees with cooking and butchery demonstrations that will focus on the different types of meat, smoke, and spices used throughout the state and beyond. In addition, attendees will tour legendary Martin’s Place in Bryan, Texas, before learning about barbecue history and regional differences.”
This isn’t a normal weekend with barbecue. The entry fee for this weekend event is $495 and you need to be a Foodways Texas member. Even though all events and lunch/dinner are included in the price, this isn’t a casual learning experience. This event if for people that really want to take their craft to the next level.
