The Taproom- San Marcos, Tx

San Marcos has a reputation for being a ‘party town’, and maybe it has something to do with the continually expanding university, or because there are just a lot of fun things to do in this quaint little slice of heaven.

Located off of IH-35, San Marcos is 30 minutes south of Austin, and 45 minutes north of San Antonio. It is home to Texas State University, the San Marcos and Blanco rivers, and The Square.  This is where you can find The Taproom, but you’re going to have know where to go to get there.

Like all of the best bars, The Taproom is actually behind the square, so you can go through its sister bar, The Porch, or just walk IMG_2053 around back.  You’re going to want to look for the big globe.

The Taproom features a full bar with over 40 beers on tap and 60 more in bottles. Texas beer selections feature beers from Real Ale, 512 Brewing, Saint Arnold among other.  The variety changes often, so you definitely have a reason to stop in frequently.  The Taproom also features an Around the World club that gets your name on the plaque if you feature every beer that’s offered.  Definitely inquire once you arrive!

There is also a great menu with tasty bar food like burgers, fish ‘n chips, and for the purposes of this website, “World Famous Baby Back Ribs”.

This is a great after work spot, weekend day drink hangout, or just to watch the big game.  If you visit, let us know what you think!

You can find more info on the website here, or visit them at 129 E. Hopkins #120, San Marcos, Tx 78666

I’ve lived in Texas all my life and can’t express how much I love this state. I found that I was enjoying these amazing bbq spots and drinking fantastic Texas-made beer and wanted my buddies and I to be able to share them with our readers.
